The show consists of three parts, they are woven into each other and elucidate different
aspects of one common theme. These three parts represent spheres like the world of
plants, the world of animals and the world of men.
The FLOWERS:
Artificial flowers amidst living green grass. The flowers are colorless, their black and
White appearance let us assume a rather abstract expression of life. They look fragile,
they are fragile. Pick a flower in reality and it will die sooner or later.
The CICADA:
Respectively the wing of a cicada. Out of its usual context and grown to this above the
Average size it evokes the idea of freedom and sublimity. The lines are clear, softly
Swung and the wing in its entirely is strong as well as fragile.
Back to earth, on the ground the viewer discovers a huge shadow out of broken glass
which abruptly let him about the beauty and certainly of the wing.
The BUILDING:
The black and white photos are from a huge abandoned industrial complex in
Darmstadt/Germany. It is an old repair hall for trains with a lot of land around it. You
are not aloud to step in, but some people do. I took the photos in summer 2002. When I
firs entered the main hall and steeped in to some smaller rooms on the second floor
which might have been offices before, I discovered the presence of a person. Obviously
of a homeless tramp. He was not there at this moment, but some of the subjects in the
room where telling their own story. A sleeping big, some cooking pots, a mirror, a
clock. He found a place to stay and arranged it for his needs. Even if only for a short
period of time. It is said that by the end of the year all buildings will be torn down,
maybe they are not existing any more at this moment. At this place decay was all around
me, but especially the situation of the homeless person reminded me of the unsteadiness
of my own existence.
The resume the sights and connect the different objects of the show there are linking
aspects such as the black and appearance: The objects turned pale, the color disappeared
and made place for a strong black and white contrast. A contrast, a dualism, an
abstraction which again is expressed by contrary pairs like: life-death, man-wife;
young-old, beginning-end...These ideas cannot be separated, one implies the other. The
other linking theme is “time”. Every part of the show deals with it, focused always
on its different implications. It is about duration, alteration and life cycles. About
transitoriness and the fragility of the moment.
